Useful Test Events for Earthquake Early Warning and General Seismological Algorithm Testing


The tables below shows a community-derived list of historic U.S. earthquakes, scenario earthquakes, and anomalous events that can be used for testing EEW as well as general seismological algorithms.

The last column indicates the directory in which each individual event's files can be found. Available files consist of the event tankfile (indicated by same prefix as directory name and ".tnk" suffix), and channel configuration file (indicated by same prefix as directory name and ".dat" suffix). Subfolders contain mseed files corresponding to each station-channel where channels include HH* and HN*. For the California, Oregon, and Washington earthquakes, waveform files begin two minutes before main shock origin time and are a total of seven minutes long.

This archive is not comprehensive and is frequently evolving. Use at your own risk.
