Faults of Southern California

Northwest Region

This map covers an area containing several geologic features. The southern end of the Great Central Valley of California (known as the San Joaquin Valley) is clearly visible. On its eastern edge rise the foothills of the Sierra Nevada range; to the west of the valley are the Coast Ranges. To the south of the valley, the central and western Transverse Ranges can be found, and at the extreme lower right of this map lies the San Fernando Valley. The San Andreas fault features prominently on this map, and the Transverse Ranges are dominantly a region of reverse faulting, but faults of every sort can be found on this map.
