At 10:30am on February 14, 2023, we will be replacing one of our web and STP servers. We expect minimal impact for users as they will continue to reach the old server for a time as as DNS propagates. We will also be shutting down our FTP service on port 21. However, you can continue to access the same files over HTTPS from https://service.scedc.caltech.edu/ftp/.

Focal Mechanism Catalog for Southern California Derived with Deep Learning Algorithms (1981-2021) Available. 04/05/2022

The SCSN Earthquake Catalog turns 90! - By January 1932, the seismic instruments installed in southern California in the late 1920's were considered reliable enough to begin recording a consistent earthquake catalog and the network has been going strong since. From the formation of the first instrumental earthquake magnitude scale by Richter, to the seismic hazard assessment and machine learning studies of today, the catalog is a valuable resource for advances in seismology. The catalog is unique because it has a continuous history of earthquake monitoring, with an average magnitude completeness achieving ML 3.25 since 1932 and ML 1.8 since 1981. (Hutton et al, 2010) You can search and retrieve data from the earthquake catalog under the "EQ Catalogs" dropdown on this site's menu bar. 1/5/2022

** NOTICE ** On July 11, 2018 the SCEDC FDSN dataselect web service will return HTTP 400 for requests from Swarm. Requests from the Swarm application have begun to impact the overall performance of our web services for all users and the services were not designed for the real-time monitoring goals of this application. To ensure the best service performance for all users, the SCEDC will not be servicing requests by Swarm applications. For real-time feeds to CI stations, we encourage Swarm users to use the IRIS SEEDLink service. 60 CI stations are sent to IRIS in real-time. 07/11/2018

** NOTICE ** On July 1, 2015, a bug was introduced into STP that caused triggered data to become leap-second noncompliant. Continuous data requests were not affected. The bugfix has been deployed on June 22, 2016. We recommend users re-download data if your data set contains events between July 1, 2015 and June 22, 2016 AND you made the download with the TRIG command between these dates. 06/23/2016
