LENGTH: 90 km
NEAREST COMMUNITIES: Cholame, Shandon, California Valley
MOST RECENT SURFACE RUPTURES: Holocene at northern end (see below); otherwise, Quaternary
OTHER NOTES: The northern section of the San Juan fault zone as shown on the map is made up primarily of the Red Hills and Gillis Canyon faults, both displaying Holocene surface rupture. The main trace of the San Juan fault appears much less active. The activity at the north end is due to the proximity of the San Andreas fault zone
